Why a Community Interest Company?

In 2005 the first Community Interest Company [CIC] was incorporated. CICs are limited companies, with special additional features, created for the use of people who want to conduct a business or other activity for community benefit, and not purely for private advantage.

This is achieved by a “community interest test” and “asset lock” which ensure that the CIC is established for community purposes and the assets and profits are dedicated to these purposes.

Registration of a company as a CIC has to be approved by the Regulator who has also a continuing monitoring and enforcement role.

GAWLINE CIC was incorporated on 11th November 2008. [Registration Number: 06746167].

At the date of incorporation there were 2270 CICs listed on the Register at Companies House.

Full information about CICs is available on the following website: www.cicregulator.gov.uk
